3-gatsu no Lion

43 words, ~1 minute

What is it? A slice of life series about a teenage shogi (Japanese chess) pro player with a rough past. What’s so great about it? It’s comfy. It has good character development. Is it safe for work? I can’t think of anything unsafe.

Devilman: Crybaby

50 words, ~1 minute

What is it about? A calm boy becomes host for a demon, and then all hell breaks loose. What’s so great about it? The social commentary. The story in general. You will likely cry by the end. Is it safe for work? Definitely not. Very drastic and sexual ad nauseam.

Golden Kamuy

75 words, ~1 minute

What is it about? An unkillable soldier and an Ainu girl teaming up with some other people to find stolen Ainu gold. What’s so great about it? A fun quirky cast of characters and the blend of adventure and cooking. Is it safe for work? Mostly, but I think there are a few questionable scenes, and I don’t think it’s great for children. Not to mention the parts where they eat deer brains and stuff.

Hyouka

53 words, ~1 minute

What is it about? A highschooler trying to not have anything to do getting dragged into answering unanswerable questions by his school friends. What’s so great about it? The story and the character relations. Is it safe for work? I think the OVA might not be fully SFW, but you can skip it.

Kemurikusa

59 words, ~1 minute

What is it about? A family punching their way through monsters looking for water in the post-apocalyptic world runs into a boy that can’t be killed with their cyber-organic weapons. It is okay if you have questions at this point. What’s so great about it? The world building. The quirky CG 3D imagery. Is it safe for work? Yes.

Kino no Tabi

113 words, ~1 minute

Okay, but which one? Both the 2003 and the 2017 series are good. The older one has a raw style comparable to Serial Experiments Lain (with which it shared the director). The newer one is more sparkling and bright. They mostly cover different parts of the source material. If you can’t choose, watch both. What is it about? Travelling around the world on a talking motorbike through small countries, with each country having its own specific quirk.

Mob Psycho 100

64 words, ~1 minute

What is it? A very stylish series about a boy with extremely developed esper powers and his struggle with normal life, occasionally interjected by villains attacking him. What’s so great about it? The main character’s ways of thinking and the character development of everybody. Is it safe for work? I think it’s rather the photosensitive content during the fights you need to worry about.

Neo Yokio

35 words, ~1 minute

What is it about? Hell if I know. What’s so great about it? The social commentary. Is it safe for work? Yes, just don’t tell weebs you’re watching it, or you’ll likely be laughed at.

Planet With

37 words, ~1 minute

What is it about? A boy raised by a humanoid cat fighting the good guys in mechas. What’s so great about it? The mecha designs. The philosophy. Is it safe for work? I think so. Can’t remember.

Seishun Buta Yarou

67 words, ~1 minute

What is it about? A high schooler solving girls' emotional problems (which cause quantum mechanics phenomena) using witty remarks. What’s so great about it? The character development is great and the movie that concludes the story made me shed a tear. Honestly, this is a great replacement for Steins;Gate. It’s shorter, with some similar themes, and much better characters. Is it safe for work? Haha no way.

Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge

33 words, ~1 minute

What is it about? A boy gaining a following and making friends by being legendarily lazy and sleepy in class. What’s so great about it? The comf. Is it safe for work? Yeah.

Violet Evergarden

88 words, ~1 minute

What is it about? An young orphan girl coming back from being a berserker kind of trained-to-recklessly-kill soldier at a fantasy version of World War I, and winds up becoming a ghostwriter for people who can’t write. What’s so great about it? The story is touching and beautifully told. The music is great. I also might have a sweet tooth for the time period this seems to be inspired by.

Yuru Camp

50 words, ~1 minute

What is it? A slice of life series about cute girls doing camping things. What’s so great about it? The overwhelming comfiness. And the great comfy soundtrack by Akiyuki Tateyama. Is it safe for work? I think there’s one or two hot springs scenes, but no fan service. That’s it.
